Developing a Black Belt Attitude: Endurance

Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes. Buddha

Each week we discuss a Black Belt Attitude topic with the kids in our Warrior Talk. This week will be on Endurance. Please pass this on to as many people as you can.

Endurance is a great quality to develop on your path to Black Belt. Without endurance I never would have been able to gain my black belt, not just physical endurance but mental and emotional endurance as well. The great by-product of doing your best at martial arts is that even when you feel like quitting (and believe me, you will) it trains you to give your best in all that you do. To endure usually means working through some kind of hardship. Quitting is too easy. We build courage by facing the pain and fear required to endure.

Developing a Black Belt Attitude: ENDURANCE

  • To dig deeper, to go further, to follow through on what you truly believe is right even when everyone else has dropped away.
  • To have the physical and mental strength to last the distance and follow through until the job is finished.
  • Tolerating sufferance to a higher degree or longer time than one normally would be expected to or has to.
  • Courage to endure what cannot be endured.
  • Strength of spirit to continue on, long, long after you want to stop or give in.
